Champlain Fellows Named
Stowe Story Labs and Champlain College’s Division of Communication and Creative Media Announce the 2016 Champlain College Fellows
(Stowe and Burlington, Vermont) – August 2, 2016 – The Division of Communication and Creative Media (CCM) at Champlain College and Stowe Story Labs are pleased to announce the two Stowe Story Labs Champlain College Fellows to the September Narrative Labs.
The 2016 Champlain Fellows are:
Jackie Carroll - Jackie is a 2016 graduate of Champlain College’s BFA in Filmmaking who made a tremendous mark in both screenwriting and filmmaking at the College. She attended Champlain's intensive Montreal Filmmaking Summer Program this past Summer and worked as a Teaching Assistant in two Screenwriting classes during her time at Champlain. She has written, directed and starred in her own short films, "Last Night" and "Grandma”. Her script Best Behavior is an edgy comedy about a young woman’s failed attempts at fame and adulthood. Jackie plans to move to New York City and pursue a career in comedy writing. “I’m really honored to have been awarded the Stowe Story Labs Fellowship. It is an amazing opportunity to work with some extremely talented people.”
Sean Goodwin - Sean is a 2016 graduate of Champlain College’s BFA in Filmmaking who was awarded the Senior CCM Excell Award for Filmmaking upon graduation. Two of his films screened at festivals this year, “Forgive Us Our Trespasses" screened at the White River Indi Films Festival, and "The Mirror" screened at the Green Mountain Film Festival. His comedy screenplay, “The Marathon Runner”, chronicles the final days leading to a local marathon during which Orson Fortunato hopes to erase his legacy as the infamous “Marathon Pooper,” and win back the girlfriend he lost in disgrace. In addition to screenwriting, Sean is currently writing a Young Adult novel and saving money to produce a micro-budget feature. Sean interned at the Stowe Story Labs’ Writers’ Retreat in May along with Jackie Carroll. “I’m excited to get back to Stowe,” Sean said. “I miss being in a room full of writers. It’s a wicked creative and productive atmosphere that’s hard to recreate anywhere else,” he said.
“We are thrilled Jackie and Sean will be joining us this fall,” said Stowe Story Labs Founder David Rocchio. “They interned with us at the May Writers’ Retreat and were such an important part of the community which makes up the Labs. They are both talented writers and artists and people. I know mentors and returning participants are excited to work with them both.”
“We are excited to partner up once again with Stowe Story Labs in offering Fellowships to two outstanding Filmmaking alumni,” said Paula Willoquet-Maricondi, Dean of the Division of Communication and Creative Media that houses the Filmmaking program. “Jackie and Sean are very talented and engaged rising filmmakers. We are proud to be able to support them.”
Julia Swift, Assistant Professor of Filmmaking at Champlain College, added that “the Stowe Story Labs offer our students a unique opportunity to show professional writers and producers all that they have learned as well as to see firsthand that when it comes to filmmaking, learning is a lifelong endeavor.”
