Stowe Story Labs and Film Seekers Strike First-Look Deal
Vermont-based institute for emerging screenwriters, filmmakers and creative producers to be a creative resource for Film Seekers, a top London-based international production and sales company
London, England and STOWE, VT (February 2019) – Stowe Story Labs and Film Seekers have agreed to a first-look deal covering potential development of original screenplays written and developed by participants of the Stowe Story Labs annual fall narrative lab and writers’ retreats.
The pact was made between David Rocchio, Stowe Story Labs Founder and President, and Caroline Couret-Delègue, Film Seekers’ manager. The new partnership provides Film Seekers access to select scripts curated by Stowe Story Labs and fitting Film Seekers’ submission requirements and needs.
Now in its seventh year of operation, Stowe Story Labs is a non-profit that brings emerging screenwriters, filmmakers and creative producers from around the world together with seasoned, working industry professionals to help get work made and seen. The Lab pairs attendees with top industry mentors, such as award-winning Creative Producer Alex Boden and Academy Award® nominated screenwriter David Magee. The Labs’ industry partners include SAGIndie, Seed&Spark, the Page International Screenwriting Awards, Tangerine Entertainment, and Final Draft.
Film Seekers is a London-based international sales agency focusing on commercially driven English language feature films with worldwide appeal. With a combined experience of more than 20 years in the independent sector, the company seeks to offer producers support from script stage through to distribution, representing eight to ten new films a year. Recent successes include Edie, released theatrically nationwide in the UK in May 2018 and named “One of the year’s biggest independent theatrical success stories” by UK Trade Magazine with the rest of the world going out theatrically throughout 2019, The Witch in the Window which sold on multi-territory deals worldwide and had a fantastic international festival run, and most recently Love Sarah, which presold to eight territories in Berlin 2019 when introduced at the market.
“On the theatrical side, we focus on feel-good inspirational stories, which are difficult to find,” said Caroline Couret-Delegue, Director of Film Seekers. “Many of the scripts developed at Stowe Story Labs would be the perfect fit for our slate which includes movies such as Edie and Love Sarah. We are thrilled that David and his team value our work as much as we recognize their talent for scouting emerging writers. A good movie always starts with a good script and we want to position ourselves early to help adapt those wonderful stories to the big screen.”
“We are excited to partner with Film Seekers and Caroline,” said Rocchio. “Caroline is incredibly smart and knowledgeable in the industry,” he said, “and completely aligned with our mission to help top emerging talents get work made and seen. I am thrilled to be working with Film Seekers to bring our participants’ projects to life.”
