Stowe Story Labs and Irish Film London Announce New Fellowship

Stowe Story Labs and Irish Film London are pleased to announce a new fellowship to Stowe’s annual Narrative Lab, to support a top emerging UK based screenwriter or filmmaker who is Irish, of Irish descent, or a member of the Irish diaspora. This brings the total number of fellowships to Stowe’s 2021 Lab to sixteen.

Stowe’s Narrative Lab is a four-day intensive and is the cornerstone of Stowe’s annual programming. It brings selected participants together with top industry mentors to workshop, collaborate, network, skill share, and demystify the international film and television industry. The intent is for participants to leave the Lab with a clear plan to advance their scripts, the ability to talk about the story clearly and in many different contexts, and a roadmap to push the story forward in the industry.

The Stowe Narrative Lab is held annually in Stowe, Vermont. In 2021 the Lab will run from June 5-8. Stowe intends to run this program in-person, but if health regulations and common sense require, they will run the program on the same dates but remotely.

Irish Film London is the host of the world’s largest Irish film festival outside of Ireland, showcasing the best of contemporary Irish cinema, its filmmakers, and culture, screened in the heart of London and online. They provide a dedicated gateway to experience, celebrate, and promote the best of contemporary Irish cinema and screen talent. They are an inclusive organization that is committed to showcasing a full range of Irish films to a diverse audience. By focusing on Irish productions, scripts, and casts, IFL provides a significant platform for Irish film in London and ensures that the best of Irish creative talent is continually promoted in the UK, gets noticed, and meets other creatives and industry professionals.

Gerry Maguire, Head of IFL, said “At a time when our industry faces uncertainty the likes of which we've not encountered before, it feels great to be partnering with an established and well respected lab like Stowe to provide an opportunity like this. Our two organizations share a vision of connecting people and using our networks to build a stronger industry. This new fellowship is an opportunity for us to offer direct support for an emerging film creative, but it also helps us give something back to the incredible Irish film community which has made us what we are today.

David Rocchio, Stowe’s Founder and Director, said, “The Irish film and television industry has brought so much to our understanding of the world and exploration of the human condition. We are excited to work with Irish Film London, and through this partnership to discover talented screenwriters and filmmakers looking to reach people through story.

“Story can change the world, and that’s not a bad thing right now,” he said.

Emerging screenwriters and filmmakers can apply online until February 28 for Stowe's range of Labs, Retreats, Fellowships, and Partial Scholarships, through Coverfly or Submittable. Learn more at www.stowestorylabs.org.
